Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of both charts. You have successfully selected key data points, such as the popularity of private studios and the age-related trends in dance styles. However, the report is somewhat mechanical in its presentation of data. To reach a higher band, ensure you synthesize the information more effectively rather than simply listing percentages. For example, instead of stating 'Private studios are 48% selected', you could describe the dominance of this location compared to others. The overview is present but could be more analytical by highlighting the most significant contrast between the two age groups.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on location and dance types respectively. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and mechanical. Phrases like 'while' are used frequently to connect clauses, which makes the flow feel a bit predictable. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and transition signals to connect your ideas more fluidly. Additionally, ensure that your referencing is clear; for instance, in the final paragraph, the transition between the two age groups could be smoother to help the reader follow the comparison more easily.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have used an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'preferred', 'selected', and 'dominance'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'elder children' (should be 'older children') and 'under 11 age' (should be 'under 11 years old'). The phrasing 'community halls & other location' is also slightly informal for an academic report. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology for describing data trends and ensure that your word forms are correct. Expanding your vocabulary to include more varied ways of describing statistical changes would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. Examples include 'The given both graphs show' (should be 'Both given graphs show'), 'Ballet dance are selected' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'their are 420 children' (should be 'there are'). These errors occur throughout the text. To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate better control over basic grammar, particularly subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions. Focusing on proofreading for these common slips will significantly improve your score.
