Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have successfully identified the main features of the charts, such as the popularity of private studios and the age-related trends in dance styles. However, the response lacks precision in reporting data. For instance, you mention '600 dancers' for Ballet, but the chart units are not specified as raw numbers, and your interpretation of the data is occasionally confusing. The overview is present but could be more clearly separated from the body paragraphs. To improve, ensure you accurately describe the data points and avoid making generalisations that are not fully supported by the provided visual information.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices like 'whereas', 'while', and 'on the top list'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the logical progression is hindered by awkward phrasing, such as in the second paragraph where the comparison of dance styles becomes difficult to follow. Improving the use of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly would enhance the overall coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main points, using terms like 'priority', 'favoured', and 'quantity'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'least strength of under 16 students' and 'the last is modern dance having least popular under 11 dancers'. These errors occasionally make the meaning slightly unclear. To reach a higher band, focus on using more natural collocations and precise terminology for describing statistical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the place and location', 'the last choice') and prepositions. Some sentences are also structurally awkward, such as 'The other type of dance in tap dance having 450 students'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the accuracy of your writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent sentence construction will help improve your score.
