Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of both charts. You successfully highlight the most popular locations (private studios) and the trends in dance types for different age groups. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, listing figures without always providing a clear synthesis or comparison. For instance, while you mention the percentages for locations, you could have grouped them more effectively to show the contrast between the most and least popular options. The overview is present but could be more analytical by focusing on the most significant trends rather than just listing data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'while', and 'but', which help to connect ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'the last is modern dance having the least popular under 11 dancers'. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the transition between the location data and the dance type data could be smoother. Improving the use of referencing and varying your cohesive devices would help the text read more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates', 'priority', 'favoured', and 'strength'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'least strength of under 16 students' and 'top list'. These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the precision of your report. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied and precise vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'predominant', 'account for', or 'a significant proportion'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the place and location of the dance classes') and prepositions. Some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'the other type of dance in tap dance having 450 students'. There are also issues with punctuation, specifically the inconsistent use of commas. Increasing the number of error-free sentences and refining your control over complex structures will improve your score in this criterion.
