Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of both charts. You successfully highlight the popularity of private studios and the age-related trends in dance styles. However, the report lacks a clear, analytical overview that synthesizes the data effectively. While you mention some figures, the comparison between the two charts could be more integrated. The description of the data is generally accurate, but some phrasing, such as 'least strength of under 16 students', is slightly awkward and could be more precise to better reflect the data presented in the charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on the two distinct charts. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'Whereas', and 'while', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the location data and the dance style data is abrupt. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the structure of the second body paragraph is somewhat repetitive, relying heavily on listing figures rather than creating a cohesive narrative of the trends.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'priority', 'favoured', and 'quantity'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'least strength of under 16 students' and 'the other type of dance in tap dance having'. These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the score. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more varied and precise vocabulary to describe trends and proportions, moving beyond basic descriptors like 'top list' or 'last choice'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'the place and location of the dance classes of youth' (redundant) and 'modern dance has more students of under 16' (missing articles or prepositions). Subject-verb agreement is occasionally inconsistent, for example, 'community halls has 18%'. Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure in the final paragraph is somewhat run-on, which affects the overall fluency. Increasing the variety of complex structures while reducing minor errors would improve the score.
