Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of both charts. You have successfully selected key data points, such as the popularity of private studios and the age-related trends in dance styles. However, the analysis could be improved by better integrating the comparisons. For instance, while you mention the percentages for locations, the connection between the age groups and the dance types is slightly repetitive. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview clearly synthesises the information rather than just listing facts. The data is generally accurate, but ensure that the distinction between the two charts is consistently clear throughout the report.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is logically organised into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Overall', 'whereas', and 'while', to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal structure of the second body paragraph could be improved by using more varied linking words to connect the data points for the different dance styles. Referencing is generally clear, but ensure that pronouns or cohesive markers are used more effectively to avoid repetitive sentence structures.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'favoured', 'priority', and 'strength'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'least strength' and 'quantity of', which are not the most natural collocations in this context. While you successfully convey the information, the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'predominant', 'account for', or 'a significant proportion', to enhance the sophistication of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'the place and location of the dance classes of youth' (redundant) and 'the other type of dance in tap dance having' (incorrect verb form). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some missing commas that would help clarify the structure of your sentences. To achieve a higher score, focus on reducing these minor errors and increasing the variety of complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or passive voice more effectively.
