Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of both charts. You have successfully selected key data points, such as the popularity of private studios and the age-related trends in dance styles. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, listing figures without fully synthesizing the information. For instance, while you mention the percentages for locations, the comparison between the two charts could be more integrated. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview clearly highlights the most significant trends rather than just listing facts. The data is generally accurate, but the presentation lacks a cohesive analytical narrative.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. There is a clear progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and occasionally mechanical, such as the frequent use of 'and' and 'while'. Some transitions between sentences feel abrupt, particularly in the second paragraph. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly, such as 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', or 'Conversely', which would help the reader follow your argument more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'priority', 'favoured', and 'quantity'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'least strength' is not a natural way to describe the lowest number of students, and 'place and location' is redundant. The phrasing 'on the top list' is also slightly informal. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary, such as 'prevalent', 'proportion', or 'minority', and ensure that your collocations are natural for describing statistical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'The other type of dance in tap dance having 450 students', which lacks a main verb. Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases, such as 'in a town of Australia' instead of 'in an Australian town'. Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are run-on or lack necessary commas to separate clauses. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining complex sentence construction will help improve your score.
