Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response successfully identifies the main features of the charts, including the location distribution and the age-related preferences for dance types. You have provided clear comparisons, such as contrasting the popularity of modern dance between the two age groups. However, the report could be improved by ensuring the data is presented more accurately; for instance, the description of ballet as having the 'least strength' for under 16s is slightly confusing, and the phrasing 'maximum under 11 students' is a bit awkward. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are clearly linked to the specific categories provided in the prompt without ambiguity.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from general trends to specific data points. You use some cohesive devices like 'whereas' and 'while' to link ideas. However, the transition between the location data and the dance type data is somewhat abrupt. The use of referencing could be more precise; for example, in the second paragraph, the phrase 'the other type of dance' is slightly vague. Improving the variety of linking words would help the flow feel more natural and less mechanical.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information, including terms like 'distribution', 'favoured', and 'priority'. However, there are some instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'least strength' and 'top list', which are not standard collocations in this context. Additionally, the repetition of 'students' and 'dancers' limits the lexical variety. To improve, try to use more precise reporting verbs and nouns, such as 'proportion', 'predominant', or 'the majority of participants', to describe the data more professionally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'the distribution of the dance classes of youth' (which is slightly awkward) and 'the other type of dance in tap dance having' (which lacks a main verb). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are slightly run-on. To achieve a higher score, focus on reducing these minor errors and incorporating a wider variety of complex structures, such as relative clauses or passive voice, to improve the sophistication of your writing.
