Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task, including both the pie chart and the table. You have successfully identified the main features, such as the popularity of private studios and the age-related trends in dance styles. However, the analysis is somewhat descriptive rather than analytical. For instance, you list percentages without always making clear comparisons between the categories. To improve, ensure you group data logically and highlight the most significant differences or similarities rather than just reporting the figures sequentially. The overview is present but could be more clearly defined as a separate paragraph to better highlight the main trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, phrases like 'on the other hand' are used where they do not logically contrast the preceding information. Additionally, the transition between the description of the pie chart and the table is abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast,' 'Furthermore,' 'Conversely') more naturally to connect your ideas and improve the flow between sentences and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic descriptors like 'famous' and 'taking by,' which are not always appropriate for describing statistical data. There are also some word-choice errors, such as 'youngers' instead of 'young people' or 'youngsters.' To improve, incorporate more academic collocations related to data reporting, such as 'account for,' 'predominate,' or 'a significant proportion.' Expanding your range of synonyms will help you avoid repetitive phrasing and demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'college-based studios with less student'), missing articles, and awkward passive constructions (e.g., 'dance classes taking by the 600 of students'). While the meaning is generally understandable, these errors are persistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly the use of articles and correct verb forms in passive voice. Proofreading for small errors like pluralization and preposition usage would also significantly enhance the accuracy of your writing.
