Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of both charts. You successfully highlight the most popular location (private studios) and the trends for different dance types across age groups. However, the overview is slightly repetitive in its phrasing, and some data points could be more precisely integrated. For instance, while you mention the percentages for locations, the comparison between the two age groups in the second chart is well-handled. To improve, ensure that the overview provides a more cohesive summary of the trends rather than just listing the highest and lowest points, and ensure all data labels are accurately described.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on the two distinct charts. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Subsequently', and 'Turning to' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition 'After that' is a bit informal for an academic report. The referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the data points in the second paragraph could be improved to better highlight the comparisons requested in the prompt.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'illustrate', and 'declined considerably'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'highest youngsters' (should be 'highest number of youngsters') and 'in under 11 aged' (should be 'in the under 11 age group'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring that nouns and adjectives are used in their correct grammatical forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully use comparative structures, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'the highest number of dance class was held' (should be plural 'classes'), 'tap dance has the lowest participation' (tense inconsistency; should be 'had'), and 'in aged 11–16' (should be 'in the 11–16 age group'). These errors occur frequently but do not prevent the reader from understanding the information. Increasing your control over subject-verb agreement and prepositional phrases will help improve your score in this criterion.
