Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of both the location and dance type charts. However, the reporting is inconsistent. While you identify the highest and lowest locations, the description of the dance types is sometimes confusing, such as stating 'the least popular for under 11 age which is about 300%'. This is a significant data misinterpretation. Additionally, the comparison between age groups is present but could be more effectively synthesised. To improve, ensure that data points are accurately transcribed and that comparisons are clearly linked to the specific categories provided in the charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'Firstly', 'Then', and 'On the other hand' are used, but the internal flow within paragraphs is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track which data point belongs to which category. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic verbs like 'choosen' (incorrect spelling of 'chosen') and 'perfer' (incorrect spelling of 'prefer'). There is a lack of variety in reporting verbs and nouns, which makes the text feel monotonous. Furthermore, there are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'highest location' instead of 'most popular location'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of synonyms and more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends and data points.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The pie charts illustrates', 'Private studios are choosen') and incorrect sentence structures. Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper punctuation, which hinders readability. While you attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty, leading to confusion. For example, 'While, The bar charts show...' is grammatically incorrect. Focusing on basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb forms, and proofreading for spelling errors would help improve your accuracy and overall control of the language.
