Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task and provides a clear overview of the main features. You successfully identified the most popular location (private studios) and the key trends in dance preferences by age group. However, the report could be improved by ensuring data accuracy and avoiding minor inconsistencies. For example, you mention '111 and 16' as an age group, which is a clear typographical error. Additionally, while you make comparisons, some of the phrasing is slightly awkward, such as 'holds most percentage of distribution'. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are accurately transcribed and that the overview highlights the most significant differences rather than just listing figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs focusing on location and dance types respectively. You use cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'However', and 'On the other hand' to signal shifts in focus. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by mechanical phrasing, such as 'While the fewest proportion was college based location', which lacks a main verb. The use of referencing is generally clear, but some transitions feel slightly repetitive. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each sentence has a clear subject-verb structure would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'distribution', and 'contributes'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'holds most percentage' (should be 'accounts for the largest proportion') and 'fewest proportion' (should be 'smallest proportion'). There are also minor errors in word form, such as '18 percentage' instead of '18 percent'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations for describing statistical data and ensure that nouns and adjectives are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('private studios holds') and sentence fragments ('While the fewest proportion was college based location'). Additionally, there are punctuation and typographical errors, such as '111 and 16'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and ensure that every sentence contains a complete grammatical structure.
