Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the charts, such as the highest and lowest percentages for locations and the distribution of age groups in dance classes. However, the reporting is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview. While the key data points are identified, the comparison between categories is limited. For example, the description of the dance classes is a list of figures rather than a synthesis of trends. To improve, you should group information more logically and ensure that the 'overview' paragraph provides a more comprehensive summary of the main trends rather than just stating the highest and lowest values.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes repetitive or awkward, such as 'Looking forward specifically' to introduce the body paragraph. The progression of ideas is occasionally disjointed, particularly when moving between the location data and the age group data. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between sentences could be smoother to improve the flow of information. Using a wider variety of linking words would help connect your ideas more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You rely heavily on phrases like 'the dance classes' and 'students are in'. There are also some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'college-base studios' instead of 'college-based' and 'attended' instead of 'attending'. To achieve a higher band score, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data reporting, such as 'account for', 'constitute', 'the majority of', or 'a significant proportion', and ensure correct word forms are used consistently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('the private studios have the highest percentage') and article usage ('the college-base studios have the 10% students'). Some sentences are fragmented or lack necessary prepositions, which occasionally makes the meaning slightly unclear. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to limit the score. Focusing on sentence construction and ensuring that verbs agree with their subjects will significantly improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
