Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have successfully identified the main features of both charts and provided relevant comparisons. You covered the distribution of locations and the trends in dance types across age groups. However, there are some inaccuracies in your reporting of the data. For instance, you stated that ballet is the highest for teenagers, but the bar chart shows modern dance is the highest for the 11-16 age group. Additionally, your description of the ballet figures for the 11-16 group as 'half of 600' is slightly imprecise compared to the visual data. To improve, ensure you double-check the data points against the labels to avoid misinterpretation, as accuracy is crucial for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organised into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on each chart. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'In the pie chart', and 'Moving to the bar graph' to guide the reader. However, the flow within paragraphs could be smoother. Some sentences feel slightly disjointed, and the use of referencing could be more sophisticated. For example, 'A number of tap dance students in both age group is bit similar' is a bit clunky. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would help elevate your score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'constitute', and 'attracted'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'age grade' instead of 'age group' and 'bit similar' which is too informal for an academic report. You also have some repetitive phrasing, such as 'highest number' and 'lowest number'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and ensure that your vocabulary is consistently academic in tone, avoiding informal expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the majority', 'the lowest') and pluralisation ('both age group' should be 'both age groups'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'Modern dance represents the highest number in age grade of 11-16'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
