Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The given pie chart and table illustrate the information on the location of dance classes in a town in Australia attended by the young people, and the breakup of types of dance forms practiced.
Overall, it can be observed that most of the youth prefer investing their time in going to private studios rather than public classes. Besides, it is clear that ballet is the most popular dance form, throughout the period. Meanwhile, tap is attended by the all age groups.
In detail, private studios witness the most attendance with approximately 48% of the total. Meanwhile, less than one-third of children, around 24% love to attend dance classes in their own school halls after school hours. In stark contrast, college-based studios are the least popular and only around 10% of children tend to attend. In addition, publicly available community halls have only 18% attendance in total, marking the second lowest location in Australia.
Delving deeper, ballet has the most significant growth in attendance, almost 600 students under the age of 11, which is double the number of children in age group 11-16 year-olds. Besides, modern dance form is enjoyed the most by 11-16 year-olds with 520 attendance, and 300 under the age group of 11. On the other hand, every age group of children love to participate in tap, more than 400 in all age groups.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all parts of the task well. You have successfully identified the main features of both the pie chart and the table, providing relevant data points to support your descriptions. The overview is clear and highlights the most significant trends, such as the preference for private studios and the popularity of ballet. However, the report could be improved by ensuring the comparisons are more precise. For instance, when discussing the table, you mention 'significant growth' in attendance for ballet, but the data provided is a snapshot of current attendance rather than a trend over time. Ensuring that the language accurately reflects the static nature of the data would strengthen the analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two different data sets. You make good use of cohesive devices such as 'Meanwhile,' 'In addition,' and 'In stark contrast' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the general overview and the detailed body paragraphs is functional but could be more sophisticated. Overall, the progression of information is clear and easy to follow throughout the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information clearly. Phrases like 'witness the most attendance,' 'in stark contrast,' and 'delving deeper' are appropriate for an academic report. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'breakup of types of dance forms' (a breakdown would be more standard) and 'investing their time in going to' (which is slightly wordy). While you use some less common vocabulary, there is room to incorporate more precise terminology related to data reporting, such as 'account for,' 'constitute,' or 'predominant.'
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You demonstrate good control over basic grammar, and most sentences are error-free. There are occasional slips, such as 'the all age groups' (should be 'all age groups') and '300 under the age group of 11' (which is slightly awkward phrasing). Punctuation is generally accurate, and the errors present do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, you should aim for a greater variety of complex structures and ensure that subject-verb agreement and article usage are consistently precise.
