Student answer (Band 7.0)

The given pie chart and table illustrate the information on the location of dance classes in a town in Australia attended by the young people, and the breakup of types of dance forms practiced.

Overall, it can be observed that most of the youth prefer investing their time in going to private studios rather than public classes. Besides, it is clear that ballet is the most popular dance form, throughout the period. Meanwhile, tap is attended by all age groups.

In detail, private studios witness the most attendance with approximately 48% of the total. Meanwhile, less than one-third of children, around 24% love to attend dance classes in their own school halls after school hours. In stark contrast, college-based studios are the least popular and only around 10% of children tend to attend. In addition, publicly available community halls have only 18% attendance in total, marking the second lowest location in Australia.

Delving deeper, ballet has the most significant growth in attendance, almost 600 students under the age of 11, which is double the number of children in the age group of 11-16. Besides, modern dance form is enjoyed the most by 11-16 year-olds with 520 attendance, and 300 under the age group of 11. On the other hand, every age group of children love to participate in tap, more than 400 in all age groups.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the location and dance types. You successfully identified the main features, such as the popularity of private studios and the age-related trends in dance styles. However, the analysis of the data is slightly inconsistent. For instance, you mention 'throughout the period,' which is inaccurate as the chart provides a snapshot rather than a time-series. Additionally, the description of the dance types could be more precise; for example, stating 'almost 600 students' for ballet is a good use of data, but ensure your comparisons between age groups are always clearly linked to the provided figures to avoid over-generalization.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and two body paragraphs. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'In detail,' 'In stark contrast,' and 'Delving deeper' to guide the reader through the information. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two distinct datasets. While the flow is generally good, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To reach a higher band, ensure that the relationship between sentences is more fluid and that referencing (e.g., 'the latter,' 'this figure') is used to avoid repetitive phrasing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision, using terms like 'breakup,' 'witness,' and 'significant growth.' There is an attempt to use less common lexical items, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'investing their time in going to' and 'modern dance form is enjoyed the most by,' which sound slightly informal or unnatural. Improving the precision of your word choices will help elevate the sophistication of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are clear and easy to follow. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'the breakup of types of dance forms practiced' (which is slightly awkward) and 'every age group of children love' (subject-verb agreement error: 'group' is singular). Despite these occasional errors, your control of grammar is generally good, and the mistakes do not impede communication. To improve, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining the structure of your introductory clauses.
