Student answer (Band 7.5)
The given pie chart and table illustrate the information on the location of dance classes in a town in Australia attended by young people, and the breakdown of types of dance forms practiced.
Overall, it can be observed that most of the youth prefer dedicating their time to going to private studios rather than public classes. Furthermore, it is clear that ballet is the most popular dance form throughout the period. Meanwhile, tap is attended by all age groups.
In detail, private studios witness the most attendance with approximately 48% of the total. Meanwhile, less than one-third of children, around 24% prefer to attend dance classes in their own school halls after school hours. In stark contrast, college-based studios are the least popular and only around 10% of children tend to attend. In addition, publicly available community halls have only 18% attendance in total, marking the second lowest location in Australia.
Delving deeper, ballet has the most significant growth in attendance, almost 600 students under the age of 11, which is double the number of children in the age group of 11-16. Furthermore, the modern dance form is enjoyed the most by 11-16 year-olds with 520 participants, and 300 under the age group of 11. On the other hand, every age group of children prefers to participate in tap, with an average of 400 participants.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response covers all parts of the task well. You have successfully identified the main features of both the pie chart and the table, providing a clear overview and supporting details. You made relevant comparisons, such as contrasting the popularity of private studios with college-based studios. The data is accurately reported, and the inclusion of specific figures helps to illustrate the trends effectively. To reach a higher band, ensure that all comparisons are fully developed; for instance, when discussing the table, you could more explicitly contrast the age groups across all dance forms rather than just listing them. Overall, the response is well-structured and fulfills the requirements of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The response is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. You have used a variety of cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Meanwhile', 'In stark contrast', and 'Delving deeper' to link your sentences and paragraphs effectively. The paragraphing is logical, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs focusing on different aspects of the data. The referencing is generally clear, and the flow of information is smooth. There is no evidence of mechanical or repetitive use of linking words, which demonstrates a good level of control over the structure of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information precisely. Phrases like 'witness the most attendance', 'significant growth', and 'breakdown of types' show an ability to use less common lexical items appropriately. There is a good awareness of style, and your word choices are generally accurate and natural. While the vocabulary is adequate and effective for the task, incorporating a few more sophisticated collocations or topic-specific synonyms could further enhance the precision of your descriptions. Overall, the range is flexible enough to allow for clear and accurate communication throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The response demonstrates a good variety of complex structures, such as the use of subordinate clauses ('...which is double the number of children...') and comparative structures. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over grammar and punctuation is strong. There are no significant errors that impede communication. To improve further, you could experiment with a wider range of sentence types, such as using more passive voice constructions when describing the data to add variety. Your current level of accuracy is high, and the minor slips are rare and do not affect the clarity of your report.
