Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of both charts. You successfully highlight the popularity of private studios and the age-related preferences for dance styles. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, listing percentages and numbers without fully synthesizing the data. For instance, the comparison between age groups for modern dance could be more clearly articulated. While you identify the main trends, the report lacks a clear, analytical overview that connects the two charts effectively. To reach a higher band, ensure that the 'Overall' paragraph provides a more comprehensive summary of the most significant trends rather than just listing isolated facts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin' and 'While', but the flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. Some transitions feel repetitive, and the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'such type of places'. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the progression of ideas within paragraphs could be smoother. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a more cohesive narrative.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrate', 'practicing', and 'interested'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'least strength of young trainers' (instead of 'lowest number of students') and 'take less attraction of child' (instead of 'attract fewer children'). These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the precision of your report. To achieve a higher score, focus on learning collocations related to data description, such as 'the most popular choice' or 'a significant proportion of'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('in town' instead of 'in a town'), pluralization ('young child' instead of 'young children'), and verb forms ('choice this place' instead of 'choose this place'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and missing commas. While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding the data, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and basic sentence punctuation will significantly improve your accuracy.
