Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, including the location of classes and the participation numbers by age group. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For example, the description of the age groups is confusing; the text mentions 'under 19' and '11-16' in a way that does not clearly align with the data provided in the chart. While the main trends are identified, the comparison between the two charts could be more integrated. The overview is present but lacks a clear synthesis of the data, focusing more on listing figures rather than highlighting significant trends or notable differences between the categories.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the other hand', 'Whereas', and 'Overall', though some transitions feel mechanical or slightly misused, such as the transition into the second paragraph. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when discussing the age groups, which makes the progression of ideas feel slightly disjointed. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two different charts, which is a positive feature of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'more demandable' instead of 'more popular' or 'in high demand', and 'positioning in the lowest position'. The use of 'whom attending' is grammatically incorrect and reflects a limited control over word forms. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'private studios' and 'community halls', the overall range is somewhat restricted, and some word choices are unnatural or inaccurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'whom attending several type' (should be 'who are attending several types'), 'Ballet is a one kind of dance', and 'highest number of claases'. Subject-verb agreement and pluralisation issues are common throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. More attention to basic sentence construction and proofreading for small errors would be beneficial.
