Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task and provides a clear overview. You successfully identified the main trends, such as the dominance of private studios and the age-related differences in dance types. However, the data reporting is slightly inaccurate in places. For instance, you state that school halls account for 24%, but the chart shows 24% for school halls and 18% for community halls, yet your sentence structure makes the data difficult to follow. Additionally, the total percentages provided for locations do not add up to 100%, which suggests a misinterpretation of the data. To improve, ensure that your data points are precise and that you clearly distinguish between the two charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on location and type. You use some cohesive devices like 'In addition' and 'concerning', which help the flow. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'the school hall that after school at 24%'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the progression of ideas within paragraphs could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence clearly relates to the previous one will help you achieve a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates', 'accounted for', and 'participated'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'use the private studios significantly than any other locations' is grammatically incorrect and uses 'significantly' in a way that does not fit the context. You also use 'young generation' and 'younger children' somewhat repetitively. To improve, focus on using more precise comparative language and ensure that your collocations are natural, such as 'the majority of students' rather than 'uses the private studios mostly'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally hinder clarity. For example, 'the school hall that after school at 24%' is a fragmented and ungrammatical clause. You also have issues with subject-verb agreement and missing articles, such as 'participated in modern dance significantly with above 500 students'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for missing prepositions and articles will be beneficial.
