Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, including locations and dance types. However, there are inaccuracies in the data reporting. For example, you state that 'almost half' attend private studios, but the chart shows 48%. You also mention '600 students' for ballet under 11, but the chart indicates 600 is the total for that age group across all dance types, not just ballet. Furthermore, you incorrectly identify the town as being in 'Britain' when the prompt specifies Australia. While the main trends are identified, the lack of precision in data interpretation and the factual error regarding the location limit the score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'On the other hand' are used to link ideas. However, the progression is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'The information is delivered by the combined graphical representation'. Additionally, the use of 'However' at the start of the second sentence in the second paragraph is grammatically incorrect as it follows an 'Although' clause, creating a redundant contrast. Paragraphing is present but the flow between sentences could be smoother.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are instances of unnatural word choice and minor errors. Phrases like 'graphical representation' and 'insight details' are slightly clunky. You use 'collate' incorrectly in 'the graph collate that', as the graph displays or illustrates information rather than collating it. There is also a repetition of 'dance classes' and 'students'. While the range is sufficient to convey the main points, the lack of precision and occasional misuse of academic vocabulary prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'ballet dance classes is mostly attended' (subject-verb agreement), '11 age group' (should be '11-16 age group'), and 'the graph collate that'. The use of articles is inconsistent, for example, 'at private studio' instead of 'at a private studio'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to suggest a lack of control over complex structures, keeping the score in the 5.5 to 6.0 range.
