Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide an accurate summary of the data. You have included subjective opinions (e.g., 'many children prefer their own studios as it gives them privacy'), which is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 report. The description of the data is also inaccurate; for instance, you mention a 'substantial growth' and 'declining rate,' but the charts provide a snapshot of current attendance, not trends over time. Furthermore, the data interpretation for the bar graph is confusing and does not clearly compare the age groups or dance types as required. To improve, focus strictly on reporting the figures provided without adding external commentary or assumptions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between the pie chart and the bar graph is abrupt. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Whereas' and 'Overall', their usage is often mechanical or inaccurate in context. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the connection between the data points and your analysis. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and use linking words more naturally to connect related ideas rather than simply listing observations.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'describes', 'depicts', and 'participated'. There are also errors in word choice and form, such as 'In majority' (should be 'The majority') and 'teenager's' (incorrect pluralization). The use of 'candidates' to refer to children in dance classes is also stylistically inappropriate. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'category', 'illustrates', and 'account for', while ensuring correct word forms and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Students shows'), incorrect pluralization (e.g., 'teenager's'), and awkward sentence structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around numbers and percentages. While you attempt some complex structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree, and using articles (a/an/the) correctly. Proofreading for common slips like missing or unnecessary apostrophes will also help improve your accuracy.
