Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Because the response is only 101 words, the analysis is underdeveloped. While you have identified some main features, such as the popularity of ballet and private studios, you have not provided a comprehensive overview of all data points. Specifically, you omitted the data for the '11-16' age group regarding dance types and failed to provide a detailed comparison of the other categories. To improve, ensure you cover all parts of the prompt and provide sufficient detail to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and a body paragraph. You use basic cohesive devices like 'while' and 'regarding' to connect ideas. However, because the response is very short, the progression of ideas is limited. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the lack of depth makes the overall structure feel incomplete. To achieve a higher band, ensure you group information logically and use a wider range of cohesive devices to link sentences and paragraphs more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks variety and sophistication. You use basic terms like 'popular', 'favored', and 'selected' repeatedly. While the meaning is clear, there is no attempt to use less common or more precise vocabulary to describe trends or data. To improve, incorporate a wider range of synonyms and collocations related to data reporting, such as 'predominant', 'accounted for', or 'the vast majority'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The grammar is generally accurate, and your sentences are easy to follow. You use a mix of simple and complex structures, such as 'while Modern dance was the most favored for students who were between the ages 11 and 16'. There are no major errors that impede communication. However, the range of structures is limited. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied sentence patterns, such as using participle clauses or passive voice to describe the data more formally.
