Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of both charts, identifying key trends such as the popularity of private studios and the age-related differences in dance class preferences. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, while you mention the percentages for locations, the comparison between age groups in the bar chart lacks precision; you describe the numbers as 'around 450-470' or '600', which is acceptable, but the overall summary is quite basic. To reach a higher band, ensure you clearly highlight the most significant differences and similarities rather than just listing data points. The overview is present but could be more integrated into the main body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive (e.g., 'firstly', 'moreover', 'moving further ahead'). There are also issues with punctuation, such as the unnecessary use of semicolons and commas in awkward positions, which disrupts the flow of the text. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between ideas feels forced rather than natural. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring punctuation is used correctly would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'choose', 'people', and 'group' throughout the response. There are also several spelling errors ('illuestrates', 'cursorry', 'yong', 'collage') and word choice inaccuracies, such as using 'collage' instead of 'college'. To improve, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'predominant', 'fluctuated', or 'accounted for'. The current level of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning but lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('the pie chart... illuestrates'), missing articles ('in australia'), and incorrect preposition usage. Punctuation is also a significant weakness; the erratic use of commas and semicolons makes some sentences difficult to parse. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the text from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence structure and proofreading for basic errors will be beneficial.
