Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of both charts, but the analysis is somewhat mechanical. While you identify the highest and lowest values, the comparison between the age groups in the bar chart is limited to listing figures rather than highlighting trends or significant differences. For instance, you could have noted that while ballet is the most popular for the younger group, modern dance becomes the preferred choice for the older group. The overview is also quite basic; it describes the charts rather than summarizing the key trends. To improve, focus on grouping information logically and identifying the most striking differences or similarities across the data sets.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and mechanical, relying heavily on simple transitions like 'Firstly', 'Next', and 'Finally'. Some sentences lack smooth connections, such as '24% is this open after school', which disrupts the flow. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making the progression of ideas feel a bit disjointed. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence flows naturally into the next by using pronouns or synonyms to refer back to previously mentioned information.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You frequently repeat words like 'area', 'chart', and 'number'. There are also some awkward collocations and phrasing, such as 'the highest pie in the pie chart' and 'this is attending currently youth'. These errors do not prevent understanding, but they limit the score. To improve, aim to use more precise terminology for data description, such as 'segment', 'proportion', 'category', or 'age bracket', and avoid repeating the same nouns in every sentence. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs would also help elevate the quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('bar chart illustrate'), word order ('this is attending currently youth'), and missing articles or prepositions. Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are run-on or lack necessary connectors. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors indicates a lack of control over more complex sentence forms. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy significantly.
