Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have successfully identified the main features of the charts and provided relevant comparisons. You clearly highlighted the popularity of private studios and the contrasting preferences between age groups regarding dance styles. However, there are some inaccuracies in data reporting; for instance, you mentioned '485' for private studios, which likely refers to a percentage or a misread figure, and you stated 'almost 600' for ballet, which lacks clarity regarding the unit of measurement. To improve, ensure that all data points are accurately transcribed from the charts and that units (percentages vs. numbers) are clearly distinguished to avoid confusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on the two charts. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In terms of', 'According to', and 'By contrast' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by mechanical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'Children under 11 ballet is the most popular choice'. The transition between sentences could be smoother, and the use of referencing is sometimes unclear. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring consistent paragraph structure will help elevate your score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'common location', and 'attending'. However, there are several spelling errors ('co;;ege', 'hals', 'differrent') and some word choice issues, such as 'accounted for 485' (which is grammatically and logically confusing). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, the lack of precision and the presence of spelling mistakes limit the score. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and proofreading for basic spelling and typographical errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('The bar chart illustrate'), missing articles ('ballet is the most popular'), and punctuation issues. Some sentences are fragmented or lack necessary prepositions, such as 'older modern', which is incomplete. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and pay closer attention to article usage and pluralization.
