Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, including location preferences and age-group dance trends. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the statement that 'School halls are used for dance classes with 24%' is unclear as it lacks context regarding the total distribution. Additionally, the description of the data for 'Tap' is confusingly phrased ('25 students are higher for under 11'), which makes the comparison difficult to follow. While the key features are identified, the lack of precision in reporting the data and some inaccuracies in interpreting the figures prevent a higher score. The overview is present but could be more effectively synthesised to highlight the most significant trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the use of 'Where' at the start of sentences (e.g., 'Where modern dance classes is filled...') is grammatically incorrect and does not function as a proper transition. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. While there is an overall logical arrangement, the lack of flexible and accurate cohesive devices limits the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'private studious' (likely meaning studios), 'college based studious', and 'heavy strength'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of the message. The student relies on basic terminology and struggles with collocations related to data reporting. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends and data points, and ensure that technical terms are spelled and used correctly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Subject-verb agreement issues are common, such as 'The charts illustrates' and 'modern dance classes is filled'. Punctuation is also problematic, particularly the misuse of semicolons and capital letters mid-sentence. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors is noticeable and detracts from the overall quality of the writing. More attention to basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the accuracy of the text.
