Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the primary locations and dance types. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview. While you mention the percentages for locations and numbers for dance types, the comparison between categories is underdeveloped. For instance, you list the data points but do not effectively synthesize the information to highlight significant trends or contrasts, such as the clear preference for private studios or the age-related shifts in dance styles. To improve, ensure your overview highlights the most striking differences rather than just listing data points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is repetitive and sometimes awkward, such as starting sentences with 'The main location', 'The second', 'thirdly', and 'last one'. These transitions are mechanical and lack variety. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. To achieve a higher band, try using a wider range of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', 'Conversely') to connect your ideas more naturally and improve the overall progression of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as using 'glasses' instead of 'classes' throughout the text, and 'trains the people perfectly', which is not appropriate for a formal report. The range is limited, relying on basic descriptors. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology related to data description (e.g., 'account for', 'constitute', 'predominant', 'fluctuate') and ensure that you use the correct terminology for the subject matter provided in the prompt.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The chart describe', 'they usually teaches'), incorrect article usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'the firstly is ballet'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader, though they do not completely impede communication. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and sentence structure. Incorporating more complex sentence forms, such as relative clauses or passive voice, would also help demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
