Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of both charts, identifying key trends such as the age-related preferences for ballet and modern dance and the dominance of private studios. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, while you mention the percentages for locations, you do not fully integrate the data to provide a comprehensive comparison. The overview is present but lacks clarity due to grammatical issues, making it difficult to follow the main trends immediately. To improve, ensure that you clearly group data points and provide a more analytical summary of the most significant differences and similarities rather than just listing figures.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'In contrast pie chart' and 'On the other hand private dominate' lack necessary articles and prepositions, which disrupts the flow. The transition between the bar chart analysis and the pie chart data is abrupt. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'conversely', 'in terms of') and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'the latter', 'this figure') is used correctly to connect ideas across sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on basic terms like 'like' and 'dominate' repeatedly. There are also noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'least preferrence' (should be 'least preferred') and 'children more like the ballet dance' (should be 'children prefer ballet'). The phrasing 'completely opposite the preference' is awkward. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to data description, such as 'predominant', 'account for', 'a significant proportion', and 'the most popular choice'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include missing articles ('in town of Australia'), incorrect verb forms ('The bar charts reveals'), and awkward sentence construction ('there was completely opposite the preference'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Ensure that you proofread your work to eliminate basic errors, as these frequent slips prevent the writing from reaching a higher level of accuracy.
