Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Because the response is only 89 words, it is severely underdeveloped. While you have attempted to report some data points, you have not provided a clear overview or identified the main trends across the two charts. The information is presented in a repetitive, list-like manner rather than a cohesive summary. To improve, you must ensure you cover all parts of the prompt, including a clear summary of the main features and comparisons between the categories, while meeting the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks logical organization and paragraphing. It consists of a single, poorly structured paragraph. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas; the text relies heavily on repetitive sentence structures such as 'the number of people who preferred...'. There is no clear progression of ideas, and the information is presented in a disjointed way. To improve, you should group related data points together, use a variety of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'furthermore', 'while'), and ensure each paragraph has a clear focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. You use the same phrases repeatedly, such as 'preferred dancing in'. There are also inappropriate word choices, such as referring to young people as 'citizens' and 'humans', which is not suitable for an academic report. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate flexibility or precision. To improve, you should use more academic terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'account for', 'the majority', and 'a significant minority', and avoid informal or inaccurate terminology.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple, repetitive sentence structures. There are several errors in basic grammar and punctuation, such as the lack of capitalization for 'Australia' and the misspelling of 'individuals' and 'preferred'. The sentence structure is monotonous and lacks the complexity required for higher bands. To improve, you should practice using a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, ensure subject-verb agreement, and pay closer attention to spelling and capitalization rules.
