Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task, providing a clear overview and selecting key features from both charts. You successfully identified the most popular location and the contrasting trends in dance types between the two age groups. However, there is a significant data error in the final paragraph: you stated 'about 4200 in Tap' for the 11-16 age group, which is a misreading of the chart (likely 420). This inaccuracy impacts the reliability of your report. To improve, ensure that data points are transcribed precisely, as accuracy is a fundamental requirement for Task 1.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on location and dance types respectively. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'In terms of', and 'On the other hand' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'the number of students attention who are 11-16'. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that pronouns or references clearly point to the intended subject will help elevate your score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrate', 'engaged', and 'considerably'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'at least priority' (instead of 'lowest priority'), 'most famous location' (instead of 'most popular'), and 'number of students attention' (which is grammatically incorrect). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Expanding your repertoire of reporting verbs and descriptive adjectives will also help you convey information more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'about 48% of dance classes held in private studios' lacks a main verb, and 'usually 300 in Ballet' is an inappropriate use of the adverb 'usually'. There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. To improve, focus on ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofread specifically for small grammatical slips that occur when you attempt more complex structures.
