Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, including the location of classes and the popularity of dance types by age group. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. The overview is present but lacks a clear synthesis of the data. While the student identifies the highest and lowest categories, the comparison between age groups is slightly disjointed. The data reporting is generally accurate, but the description of the 'community halls' and 'others' categories is unclear and lacks precision. To improve, ensure that all data points are clearly linked to the specific categories provided in the prompt rather than using vague descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or awkward, such as the repetitive use of 'And' at the start of sentences. The transition between the two charts is abrupt, and the logical progression within the second paragraph is hindered by slightly confusing sentence structures. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when discussing the 'community halls' and 'others' sections. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words would significantly enhance the flow of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of imprecise word choice and spelling errors, such as 'accomodation' (likely meant 'location') and 'allover' (should be 'throughout'). The phrase 'addicted to' is inappropriate in this formal context; 'preferred' or 'favoured' would be better. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'proportion' and 'percentile', the misuse of these terms limits the score. A wider range of precise, academic vocabulary is needed to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the lowest slice was for College based studios which is witnessed with 10%' and 'Tap dance classes were equally joined from the both age groups which is seemed with 420 and 400 schoolmates.' These errors in passive voice construction and preposition usage are noticeable. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage would be beneficial.
