The charts below give information on the location and types of dance classes young people in a town in Australia are currently attending.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The pie chart illustrates the distribution of dance class locations, while the bar graph depicts the number of participants in various types of dance classes.

Overall, the majority of dance classes were held in private studios, whereas college-based studios had the fewest. Modern dance classes were the most popular among individuals aged 11 to 16, while ballet attracted the least interest. In contrast, for children under the age of 11, the trend was reversed.

Nearly half of the dance classes, accounting for 48%, were hosted in private studios, making them the most common venue. School halls were the second most popular location, contributing 24% of the total, while only 10% of the dance classes were held in college-based studios, which is lower than those in community halls and other locations.

Regarding the types of dance classes, ballet had the highest enrollment among children under 11, with around 600 participants, which is double the number of students engaged in modern dance classes. Despite this, modern dance still attracted over 500 students, significantly more than ballet's 300 participants. Notably, tap dance had a similar enrollment in both age groups, with approximately 430 students in each.
