Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, including location and dance types. However, the analysis is inconsistent. While you identify the highest and lowest categories, the data reporting is sometimes confusing, particularly in the second paragraph where percentages are mentioned without clear context, and the third paragraph where the description of the age groups is difficult to follow. To improve, ensure that data points are clearly linked to their respective categories and that comparisons are made more explicitly. The overview is present but could be more effectively integrated to highlight the most significant trends rather than just listing extremes.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'whereas' and 'while'. There are also issues with punctuation, particularly the placement of periods and commas, which disrupts the flow of ideas. For example, '48%. , whereas' contains unnecessary punctuation that hinders readability. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your sentences are punctuated correctly to maintain a logical progression of information.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'highest number of students' and 'do practice', which is repetitive. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'college-base studios' and 'maximum age of students'. To improve, try to use more varied reporting verbs and nouns related to data description, such as 'predominant', 'account for', or 'the majority'. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you avoid the repetitive patterns currently present in your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('the highest number of students practice'), incorrect article usage, and awkward phrasing ('600 number of students'). Punctuation is also a significant issue, with many sentences containing misplaced commas and periods that break the flow of the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, these frequent errors in basic grammar and punctuation prevent the response from achieving a higher score. Focusing on sentence structure and proofreading for basic errors would be highly beneficial.
