Student answer (Band 6.0)

The pie chart depicts the location of dance classes and the bar graph illustrates the number of learners in three categories ballet, tap and modern dance classes with respect to age factor.

Overall, private studios are majorly contributing for dance classes, whereas the mininmum contribution is from college-based studios. From the bar chart, it is obvious that ballet dance is more popular among students of age under 11 as compared to those age group 11-16, who participated in this type of dace with least number. Conversely, Modern dance is less preferable by under 11, while most participation in that type of class students is of age 11-16.

The highest ratio (48%) of private studios is being used for teaching dance and college-based studios are offering only 10% of the total locations for dance teaching. Moreover, school halls contribute with 24% of total locations for dance with 18% offered by community halls and others.

As for bar graph, ballet dance is higly pouplar among under 11 with 600 students and only 300 of 11-16 age are learning this. While, a major number of upto 520 student of 11-16 age are learning modern dance, only 300 of under 11 have enrolled for this type. The third category, tap dance, is almost equally preferred by both age groups with almost 450 under 11 and upto 420 of 11-16 aged students.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task, providing a clear overview and highlighting key features from both charts. You successfully identified the dominance of private studios and the age-related trends in dance preferences. However, the analysis could be improved by more precise comparisons. For instance, when discussing tap dance, you mention it is 'almost equally preferred', but the data shows a clear difference (450 vs 420). Additionally, the phrasing 'majorly contributing' and 'least number' is slightly imprecise. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are described with maximum accuracy and that comparisons are explicitly linked to the figures provided.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Conversely', 'Moreover', and 'As for' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more balanced. The connection between the two charts is established, but the flow between sentences within the second paragraph is occasionally repetitive. To improve, focus on varying your linking phrases and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus, which you have largely achieved here.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'depicts', 'illustrates', and 'enrolled'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'mininmum', 'higly', and 'pouplar'. Additionally, phrases like 'majorly contributing' are not standard academic collocations. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning clearly, you need to refine your spelling and use more precise academic terminology to move into the higher bands. Focus on using collocations that sound natural in a report-writing context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'the highest ratio... is being used' (passive voice is slightly awkward here), 'most participation in that type of class students is of age', and 'upto 520 student'. These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Ensure that your complex sentences are constructed with precision.
