Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response identifies the main features of the charts, such as the location of dance classes and participation by age group. However, while the overall description is present, it lacks specific details needed for higher bands, such as clearer comparisons between age groups and dance types. For example, stating that 'private studios accounted for 48%' while 'college-based studios represented 10%' is informative but could benefit from more analytical commentary on these trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay presents an overall structure, beginning with a clear introduction and several body paragraphs. However, coherence suffers due to some awkward sentence connections, such as 'this was followed by...' that could be better integrated into the overall flow. The use of transitional phrases could improve the clarity and organizational flow of ideas, enabling smoother transitions between descriptions of locations and types of classes.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with terms like 'proportion' and 'participated' effectively communicating the intended ideas. However, there are instances of repetition and some imprecise phrases, like 'accounted the largest number' which would be better phrased as 'recorded the highest participation'. Enhancing lexical variety and precision would help convey the information more effectively and facilitate a higher score in lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The grammatical range is generally appropriate but contains several errors that affect accuracy, such as 'accounted for the highest proportion of location' instead of 'accounted for the highest proportion in terms of location'. There are also errors in punctuation and some incorrect article use. Attention should be focused on improving basic sentence structure and ensuring grammatical accuracy to avoid misunderstanding and enhance clarity.
Overall feedback
Overall, the response effectively summarizes the data from the charts and covers the required elements, although it could benefit from deeper analytical insights and clearer comparisons. To improve, focus on enhancing coherence and clarity through better transitions and sentence structure. Aim to enrich vocabulary choices and minimize repetition to reflect a wider range of language. Lastly, refine grammatical accuracy by reviewing common constructions and articles to enhance communication precision.
