Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of both charts, identifying the primary locations and the distribution of dance types across age groups. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, the report mentions the percentages for locations but fails to synthesize the data effectively. The description of the bar chart is purely descriptive, listing figures without highlighting the most significant trends or making meaningful comparisons between the age groups (e.g., the shift in popularity from ballet in the younger group to modern dance in the teenager group). To reach a higher band, you should focus on grouping data to tell a clearer story rather than just listing numbers.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward. For example, the use of 'Wherein' at the start of a sentence is grammatically incorrect in this context, and 'While' is used repetitively to start sentences, which disrupts the flow. The progression of ideas is logical, but the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used accurately would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are some noticeable errors in word choice, such as 'voted 48% to private studios' (where 'accounted for' or 'represented' would be more appropriate) and 'in favor to' (should be 'in favor of'). Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'ore' instead of 'more'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise reporting verbs and nouns related to data analysis, such as 'constituted', 'predominated', or 'a significant proportion'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder clarity. For example, 'the different location of dance classes' should be plural, and 'various type of dance classes' should also be plural. The phrase 'teenagers aging from 11 to 16' is slightly unnatural; 'aged 11 to 16' would be better. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these small errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage to improve accuracy.
