Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of both charts, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify the highest and lowest figures, the comparisons are occasionally imprecise. For example, stating 'less the half' (likely meaning 'less than half') and 'above one-fifths' lacks the precision required for a Band 6 or higher. The overview is present but could be more effectively integrated to highlight the most significant trends across both charts. You have successfully selected key data points, but the lack of clear comparative language limits the depth of your analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'Regarding pie chart' and 'Whereas. collage-based' (with an unnecessary full stop) disrupt the flow. The transition between the two charts is functional, but the internal logical progression within paragraphs is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. Improved use of linking words such as 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in contrast' would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic descriptors like 'highest figure' and 'least number'. There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'the half number of 11-16 age group individuals chosen ballet' (should be 'half the number of individuals in the 11-16 age group chose ballet'). To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology for describing data, such as 'constituted', 'accounted for', or 'a significant proportion'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity, such as 'number of students are recently attending' (should be 'number of students recently attending') and 'students who interested in' (missing the verb 'were'). Punctuation errors, such as the misplaced full stop after 'Whereas', also detract from the quality. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band.
