Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the location and dance types. You have identified the main features, such as the dominance of private studios and the popularity of specific dance styles across age groups. However, the analysis of the bar chart is slightly confusing; for instance, you state that ballet is 'less dominant' in the under-11 group while simultaneously noting it has 600 students, which is the highest figure. The comparison between age groups could be more precise. To reach a higher band, ensure that your data reporting is consistent and that you clearly highlight the most significant trends rather than listing figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on location and dance types respectively. You use some cohesive devices like 'Looking first at' and 'Turning to', which help the flow. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'In the term of dance type'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the progression of ideas within the second body paragraph is somewhat disjointed due to the repetitive structure of the sentences. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'depicts', 'illustrates', 'dominant venue', and 'prominent'. However, there are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'ballent' (ballet), 'dominat' (dominant), and 'citizen' (which is inappropriate for referring to children in a dance class context). Some collocations are also unnatural, such as 'common place for dance practice'. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology and proofreading for spelling errors, as these minor inaccuracies occasionally distract the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Ballet dance are', 'modern dance are') and article usage (e.g., 'school hall covered the 24%'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas and missing spaces after periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and consistent punctuation will significantly improve the quality of your writing.
