Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the location and dance types. You have successfully identified the main features, such as the dominance of private studios and the popularity of ballet among younger students. However, there are some inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, you state that 600 students aged under 11 practice ballet, whereas the chart indicates 600 for the 11-16 age group. Additionally, the comparison between age groups for modern dance is slightly confusing. To improve, ensure that data points are transcribed precisely from the charts to the text to maintain accuracy in your summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on location and dance types respectively. You use some cohesive devices like 'Looking first at', 'In contrast', and 'Turning to', which help guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by mechanical phrasing and some awkward transitions between sentences. The use of referencing is sometimes unclear, and the paragraphing could be improved by ensuring that the overview provides a more distinct summary of the trends rather than just stating facts. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear enough to follow without difficulty.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'dominant venue', 'prominent', and 'illustrates'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'In the term of dance type' (should be 'In terms of') and 'less prominent place' (should be 'a less prominent place'). While you attempt to use some less common vocabulary, the repetition of 'practice' and 'dance' limits the sophistication of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise synonyms and ensuring that collocations are natural and grammatically correct.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including punctuation issues (e.g., 'held.. while'), missing articles ('in the aged group'), and subject-verb agreement errors ('account only 300 people'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout the report. To improve, pay closer attention to sentence punctuation and the correct use of articles and prepositions. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy would also help elevate your score.
