Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified some main features, the analysis is somewhat superficial. You have attempted to report data for both dance types and locations, but the lack of sufficient length means the information is not fully developed. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive overview and include more detailed comparisons between the categories. The data interpretation is generally accurate, but the brevity prevents a higher score. You must expand your analysis to ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed in sufficient detail to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You have used some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'However', and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and the transition between the dance types and the location data could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas is limited by the short length of the response. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus that contributes to the overall summary of the charts.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You use some relevant terms like 'pie-chart', 'dance forms', and 'private studios'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'school ager childrens' and 'highest choosen'. Additionally, there are spelling errors like 'contemparory'. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure you are using the correct word forms. Expanding your range of synonyms and collocations will help you convey information more effectively and naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder clarity. For example, 'the college-based studios was the least favourite choice' contains a subject-verb agreement error, and 'younger child were resulting at 300' is grammatically incorrect. Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence construction is often clunky. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Practicing more complex sentence structures while ensuring they remain error-free will help you demonstrate better control over your grammar.
