Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have identified the main features of the charts, the response is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence. The overview is present, but the analysis of the second chart is underdeveloped due to the premature conclusion. To improve, ensure you provide a comprehensive summary of all data points and complete your sentences. Because the response is under-length and lacks a full conclusion, it does not fully address all parts of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'whereas', and 'respectively' to link ideas. However, the abrupt ending disrupts the logical flow of the final paragraph. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the lack of a completed final thought makes the overall coherence feel unfinished. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear concluding sentence and that your transition between the two charts is smoother.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportions', 'enrolments', and 'categorised'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'collage' instead of 'college', 'moder' instead of 'modern', and 'Regards with' instead of 'Regarding'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on accurate spelling and using more precise collocations when describing data trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'Ballet classes were dominated by children under 11, while the older kids enjoy moder dance the most.' There are some grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'The pie charts depicts' (subject-verb agreement) and '24% students' (missing preposition 'of'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and ensure consistent verb tense usage when reporting data.
