Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully address the task. While the student attempts to identify some features, the analysis is fragmented and lacks a clear overview of the data. Key comparisons are missing, and the description of the charts is confusing, making it difficult to follow the trends. The information provided is insufficient to provide a comprehensive summary of the charts, leading to an under-developed response that does not fully cover all parts of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. Paragraphing is not used effectively, and the progression of ideas is disjointed. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the awkward transition 'as a result' which does not logically connect the preceding and following clauses. The referencing is unclear, and the overall arrangement of information is confusing, making it difficult for the reader to identify the main trends or relationships between the data points presented in the charts.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and often used inaccurately. Phrases like 'regarding with location' and 'under ager' are non-standard and impede clarity. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe statistical data, relying on repetitive or vague language. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation throughout the text, which occasionally cause difficulty for the reader in understanding the intended meaning. To improve, the student should focus on learning specific collocations for describing charts and graphs.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'The provided pie chart illustrate', and incorrect preposition usage. Sentence structures are largely simple, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty, such as the final sentence which lacks clarity and grammatical coherence. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with irregular spacing around commas. The high frequency of errors indicates a lack of control over basic grammatical structures, which hinders the overall communication of the data.
