Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, but the analysis is inconsistent. While you identify the highest and lowest locations, the description of the dance types is confusing and lacks clarity. For instance, the statement 'students under 11 attended ballet and half of this attended of 11-16 than others' is unclear and fails to accurately report the data provided in the bar chart. You need to ensure that comparisons are precise and that the data points are clearly linked to the categories. The overview is present but could be more effectively integrated to highlight the most significant trends across both charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. Phrases like 'Furthermore' and 'Consequently' are used, but they do not always logically connect the sentences that follow. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between the age groups and the dance types becomes muddled. To improve, focus on using cohesive devices that naturally link your observations rather than relying on forced transitions, and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'collage based studies' (likely meant 'college-based') and 'youngest people' instead of 'young people'. The repetition of 'students' and 'attended' limits the range of your writing. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more varied terminology related to data reporting, such as 'accounted for', 'constituted', 'the majority', or 'a significant proportion', and ensure that technical terms are spelled correctly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('young citizens are accounted for'), missing articles, and awkward sentence construction ('the number of 600 students of under 11 preferred ballet dance while , 11 -16 had the 300 student'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and spaces. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your sentence structures are grammatically sound before attempting more complex forms.
