Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the pie chart and the bar chart. You successfully identified the main features, such as the popularity of private studios and the high participation in ballet. However, the analysis of the bar chart is slightly confusing. For instance, stating 'approximately 600 and 300 students of both age groups' is ambiguous; it is unclear which age group corresponds to which figure. To improve, ensure that comparisons between age groups are explicit and clearly linked to the data provided in the chart. Overall, the report is relevant, but the clarity of data presentation could be enhanced to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Meanwhile', 'It can be seen that', and 'Moving towards'. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as in the final paragraph where the connection between the age groups and the specific dance types is not clearly signposted. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the general overview to the specific details of the charts.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'participation', 'ratio', and 'preference'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'Probing ahead' (which is not a standard transition in this context) and 'made the second most popular' (which lacks a subject). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the phrasing is sometimes slightly unnatural. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary choices are contextually appropriate for a formal report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'Private studios was more popular' (subject-verb agreement) and 'approximately about 503 students' (redundant modifiers). Additionally, the sentence 'approximately 600 and 300 students of both age groups joined ballet dance classes, respectively' is grammatically awkward. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and avoiding redundant phrasing will help improve your accuracy.
