Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of both charts, identifying the highest and lowest categories. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, you state that college-based studios had 10% and were 'higher than community halls,' yet the chart shows community halls at 18%. Furthermore, the second paragraph contains a major contradiction: you claim private studios were the most popular, but then state college-based studios were the 'most common.' These errors in data interpretation and internal consistency prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you carefully cross-reference your written summary with the visual data provided to avoid factual errors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, and there is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Overall,' 'In addition,' and 'Turning to.' However, the logical flow is hampered by the factual errors mentioned in the task achievement section. The transition between the first and second chart is clear, but the internal logic within the paragraphs is sometimes confusing, particularly in the final paragraph where the comparison of popularity is contradictory. The use of referencing is occasionally mechanical, and the overall progression of ideas is slightly disjointed due to the inaccurate reporting of the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is repetitive and lacks precision. Phrases like 'number of students account' and 'number of students are represented' are awkward and unnatural. You rely on basic descriptors like 'highest' and 'lowest' without varying your language. There is also a lack of control over word forms, such as using 'percentage' incorrectly (e.g., '48 percentage' instead of '48 percent'). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise reporting verbs and nouns, and ensure you use statistical terms like 'percent' or 'percentage' correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'The chart below give information' (subject-verb agreement error), 'It figure of tap 450' (incorrect sentence structure), and 'college based studios had most common' (missing verb/adjective). While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors is noticeable. To improve, focus on basic subject-verb agreement and ensure that every sentence has a clear, grammatically correct structure before moving on to more complex sentence forms.
