Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have identified the main features of the charts, the analysis is very brief and lacks the necessary detail to fully address the task. You have provided some data points, such as the 48% for private studios, but you have not adequately compared the two age groups or provided a comprehensive overview of all data categories. To improve, you must ensure you describe all parts of the charts and provide a more thorough comparison of the trends, ensuring the response reaches the required length.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organised into short paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes awkward, such as the repetitive use of 'overall' at the beginning of sentences. The connection between the introduction and the body paragraphs is disjointed, making the text feel like a collection of isolated sentences rather than a cohesive summary. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'furthermore', 'in contrast', 'consequently') to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure each paragraph has a clear focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'the famous' and 'the proportion of the dance classes held the different location' are inaccurate and unnatural. There is a lack of variety in the language used to describe data, such as 'made up a 48%'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise vocabulary related to describing charts and trends, such as 'predominant', 'account for', 'a significant majority', or 'fluctuate'. Focus on using collocations correctly to improve the naturalness of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with articles ('the pie chart', 'the private chart'), prepositions ('in the between of'), and sentence structure ('the bar charts shows that the comparison'). The sentence structures are simple and lack the complexity required for higher bands. Errors such as 'the under 11 aged groups contribute in the ballet dance' impede clarity. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and attempting more complex sentence structures while ensuring they remain grammatically accurate.
