Student answer (Band 5.5)
The pie chart reveals information about location of the dance classes and the bar graph reveals the information about types of dance classes by age group like under11 and 11-16 and number of students.
It is clear that from the pie chart location of the dance classes like community halls & other is 18%, private studios is 48%, college-based studios is 10%, school halls(after-school) 24%.

Tap type dance over the 4 hundred students by age 11-16 and under 11 near about 500. Ballet type dance 600 students under 11 and 300 students age 11-16.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of both charts, but the analysis is quite mechanical and lacks a clear overview. While you have identified the data points, you have not effectively synthesized the information or highlighted significant trends or comparisons. For instance, you list percentages and numbers without grouping them into meaningful categories or identifying the most striking differences. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary statement that captures the 'big picture'—such as the dominance of private studios or the age-related preferences for specific dance types—rather than just listing raw data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between sentences is disjointed. You rely on simple, repetitive sentence structures to introduce data, such as 'The pie chart reveals...' and 'Moving further towards the bar graph reveals...'. There is a lack of varied cohesive devices to link ideas logically. The progression of information feels like a list rather than a cohesive report. Using transition words like 'In contrast,' 'Furthermore,' or 'Conversely' would help connect your observations and improve the overall readability of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is functional but limited. You repeat words like 'type', 'dance', and 'students' frequently, which makes the writing feel repetitive. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or precise collocations. For example, instead of saying 'highest students join', you could use 'the most popular choice among...' or 'the highest participation rate was recorded for...'. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs and nouns related to data reporting (e.g., 'account for', 'predominate', 'fluctuate') would significantly enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response consists mainly of simple sentences with some grammatical inaccuracies. There are issues with article usage (e.g., 'location of the dance classes' should be 'the location of dance classes') and prepositional phrases. You also struggle with sentence structure, often omitting necessary verbs or using awkward phrasing like 'near about 500'. To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate a better mix of complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions, while maintaining better control over basic grammar and punctuation.
