IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below give information on the location and types of dance classes young people in a town in Australia are currently attending.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The circular chart illustrates the locations of dance classes, and a bar graph demonstrates the kinds of dance classes that young people are attending at present in a town in Australia.

As per the glimpse of a pie-chart, the largest portion is occupied by the private studios, which account for 48%. Whereas the college-based studios cover the smallest portion that is 10% only. Community halls and other stands for 18%. School halls account for 24% and is used after school.

Moving further, the bar graph represents that the maximum number of students are enrolled in the ballet dance and the majority of the students are under 11. There are 300 students in ballet dance aged between 11-16. In tap dance, 420 and 450 students are currently present aged under 11 and 11-16 respectively. Moreover, in modern dance, 300 students which are under 11 are enrolled and for 11-16 age, 510 students are present.

Overall, most of the locations for dance classes are occupied by private studios. The largest number of students have enrolled for ballet dance whereas, the lowest number of students for modern dance which are under 11.
