Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the most popular locations and dance types. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, the data for 'School Halls' and 'Community halls' is presented in a fragmented way, and the comparison between age groups is not fully developed. The report lacks a clear overview or summary paragraph, which is essential for a high band score in Task 1. While the key information is present, the lack of a cohesive summary and the somewhat disjointed presentation of figures prevent it from reaching a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks paragraphing, which makes it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and repetitive, relying heavily on simple transitions like 'Then' and 'Lastly'. There is no clear logical structure separating the two charts (location vs. type). Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'Then there other two options but there capacity were comparatively less', where the connection to the previous data is weak. To improve, you should group related information into distinct paragraphs and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your sentences more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate to convey the basic information but lacks the precision required for a higher band. There is a reliance on basic terms like 'more trending' and 'exact number of'. Some word choices are inaccurate, such as 'Private studious' (likely meaning 'studios') and 'capacity' (when referring to the number of students attending). There is little evidence of less common lexical items or sophisticated collocations. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology for describing data, such as 'the majority of', 'a significant proportion', or 'the least popular option'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'From the given task the information shows about the various dances are held' is grammatically incorrect. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement ('there capacity were') and missing articles. Punctuation is inconsistent, with several run-on sentences that lack proper clause separation. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of basic grammatical errors limits the score. Focusing on sentence structure and proofreading for basic agreement errors would be beneficial.
