Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying key trends in location and dance types. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the description of the dance types is confusing; the text mentions '600000 number of children' for Ballet, but the chart data provided in the prompt is not clearly interpreted or compared effectively. The summary of the location data is better, but the overall report lacks a clear overview or a strong concluding synthesis. To improve, ensure that data points are accurately transcribed and that comparisons between categories are more explicit rather than just listing percentages.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into three paragraphs, which is appropriate for a short report. However, the flow between ideas is sometimes disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is basic, such as 'Moreover' and 'In contrast', but some transitions feel mechanical. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between the percentages and the locations could be smoother. Paragraphing is present, but the internal logic within the third paragraph is hampered by awkward phrasing and unclear comparisons between the age groups and dance styles.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'Ballet form of dance' and 'modern form of dance shows opposite trend'. The student relies on simple descriptors and occasionally misuses terms, such as 'exceeded by' when describing the data trend. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the general meaning, it does not demonstrate the flexibility or the use of less common items required for a higher band score. More precise reporting verbs and comparative adjectives would enhance the quality.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The charts illustrates', 'Tap dance have'), incorrect article usage, and awkward sentence construction ('that is about 48%'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and unnecessary capitalization. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader and indicate a lack of control over complex structures. Focusing on basic sentence accuracy and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
